Guitars, Basses, Amps & FX • Clean amp vs dirty amp

Ever since Covid - ie since I stopped playing gigs - I’ve got in the habit of always running my effects into the clean channel of my Supro Coronado, which is not as bright as the clean channel of, say, a Fender amp but is still pretty damn clean even with the master volume at 5 (and a Weber attenuator stopping well short of breakup). Lately though I’ve been wondering if I’m not selling some of my effects short by not running them into an overdriven amp? In various forums I often see folks strongly suggesting this-or-that pedal really needs a dirty amp to shine. It’s usually some type of gain pedal, particularly of the fuzz variety: Fuzz Faces, Rats, Boss distortions etc

In your experience are there any particular effects that are dependent upon, or vastly improved by, a hotter amp?
