1U & 3U Eurorack Modules • [philosophy] How do you design a system?

Greetings... due to a recent string of good luck on the used market I've decided I want to try and put together a purpose built system around some of those finds. My first real adventure into eurorack was a couple of Moog semi modulars and some assorted fun pieces and utilities in a single case which taught me a lot but never felt like it could holistically do all the things I wanted it to do. I could ask for specific advice on building up this case (and might) but I thought it would be more fun to ask everyone how they think about putting things together for their own purposes.

How do you think about what you want in a system, where do you start, and where do you go from there? For me I want to make something self contained and performative in a smallish 7u/84hp. I have a core instrument I want to build around that's compact but super feature rich, and the goal is to use the rest of the space to accompany it with a few flexible digital voices and as much modulation as I can cram in the case while avoiding battleships and menu diving like the plague. Not the most groundbreaking approach but reasonably well considered I think :despair: I guess what I'm most hoping to get out of this thread is some perspective on thinking through this to make sure there aren't any other approaches I might want to incorporate before I start slowly building this thing out. Cheers! :guinness:
