1U & 3U Eurorack Modules • WMD MSCL: Could really use some help with the WMD MSCL

Hey what’s up everyone. Hope the weekend was good

I have a question for all of you WMD MSCL users. So I grabbed one a couple of months ago to use end of chain/sc. I have it set up after the cosmotronic cosmix V1 mixer, then sending the out from that into the MSCL and from there out into the interface.

Just wanted to preface this by saying that I bought this used. When I first got it I thought it sounded amazing considering the size and quality. I was so stoked to finally have great comp that sounded good.

Now when I got it I didn’t really have a chance to fully explore the capabilities and due to a shitty chronic illness which leaves me basically bedridden. So I had to take a little vacation from making some music for a month or two.

Recently I’ve been feeling better and was so stoked to finally get back to making just absolutely horrible music lol but it’s fun so whatever but this time I really had a chance to play around with it and to my surprise I noticed that it sounded like complete dog shit at almost every level both the knobs and the switches.

I’m pretty familiar with comps and understand that they can add artifacts when pushed but I’m getting these crazy loud popping sounds pretty much at every setting. The window in which it sounds I guess good is super narrow. So I figured I was probably pushing it too hard and it was picking up dirty signals or something. But even lowering the output runnin into the MSCL doesn’t seem to make any difference. The popping sound which is extremely loud and seems like it capable of damaging the monitors occurs when dialing it in. If the gain is hi and the comp is turned all the way up if the attack and release settings aren’t in that very narrow window I get those pops. If I can get the settings in the window the output is is extremely low no matter what I do regarding outputs throughout the rest of the case and even turning up the gain on the interface.

In less extreme settings the popping is a bit quieter, that narrow window becomes a fractionally larger but the output is still really quite.

I’m wondering if I’m using this wrong in regards to signal placement or something, or if that’s the nature of this particular comp or maybe a lemon someone dumped and I was lucky enough grab.

I was hoping that some of fine ladies and gentlemen and all the lovely people in between might be able to help me out with this or provide some guidance or help me try to figure out if it’s a problem on my end or with the module. I’m really desperate and any help would be super appreciated I’d be super grateful for the time and support. I’ve run out of ideas and I’m at a total loss. I’m leaning it’s busted module but this is my first comp in euro and I know there’s a lot of variables involved with the signal.

Thanks for taking the time to read to read this
