I have just acquired an ESX-8CV and am trying to use it with ES-8 and ES-5. All connections are as shown in the manuals.
I am controlling the system with Max/MSP, controlling the ES-8 directly from the dac~ objects 1-6, the ES-5 with the es5encoder~ patched to dac~ 7 and 8, and the ESX-8CV with esx8cvencoder~ connected to input 4 of the es5encoder. This is more or less as shown in the es4encoder~.maxhelp and esx8gt~.maxhelp
The ES-5 works fine. When I first installed it, I did manage to scramble the lights and mess up the routing by sending values to dac~7 (oops). Eventually I worked out that sending 0.0000 to dac7 would reset the module and I've been happily using it for months.
Not so the ESX-8CV. All lights are on and most of the outputs show 2.75V. One or two show 0v or so. I cannot change any output by sending signals or floats to esx8cvencoder~.
Late breaking news: I had a Max crash tying to bring up a scope~ object. After rebooting Max twice and the ES modules once, the ESX-8CV lights are out and the jacks show 0.0v. Still can't change anything though. I think the crash sent some random data to the DACs, because I had to reset the ES5 by sending 0 to DAC7
Questions:
Has anyone had similar experiences?
What flavor data does esx8cvencoder~ expect? Signal? Float? Int? Binary?
What is the magic value that resets an 8CV?
