Hey all. I have a few semi modulars I patch together in my big 19" rack, but I recently started buying modules to build my wife a eurorack video rig and am at the point where I could use some pointers from people with some experience.
I have 9U of 84HP "asiarack" rails on the way and I will be building a wood case myself, right now planning on a Befaco Excalibus for the power supply as I read they are very low noise and good for video applications but am definitely interested in other power recommendations.
Here's the modules I have so far:
Chroma Cauldron Mainbow (52HP) & Wave Comber (22HP)
Saiko Modular Dirty Video Mixer (3HP)
FKMG IDEIN Optic Gate Generator (8HP) & KIEL expander (2HP)
Expert Sleepers Disting Mk.4 (4HP)
NoodleVolt Fidget Spinner 1.5 (20HP)
Tidbit Audio Solar Voltages 2 Channel Light Theremin (2HP) & Random CV Generator/Quad Random Osc (2HP)
KORG SQ-1 in 3d printed mounting frame (40HP)
Harzlich Labs 4HP MMI (mounted horizontally in bonus slot in SQ-1 mounting frame, does not count against total HP)
Two Eso-Tek 1x6/2x3 passive mults (2HP each)
So that is 159HP filled and 93 HP open. I want to leave a good chunk of that open for her to expand herself, but it's not yet up to what I want to present her. There are a few 2HP modules I know are going to be smart additions- one or two 5:1 voltage scalers since video modules all seem to prefer 1v, attenuators, inverters.
Our previous video adventures were all basic VHS/camera component signal basic glitching, not video generation so I want another module or two that lean into that, but I am afraid this is where I am gonna wander into redundancy so any insight/comparisons on this short list is welcome:
Freedom Enterprise MisMatcher Connect Mini (top choice through most of this process)
Syntonie CBV001 Circuit Bent Video Enhancer
Syntonie CBV002 Circuit Bent Video Delay
LoFiFuture T-420 Ultra High Grade (initial pick, looks slick but pricey, definitely decided against the arcade button expander)
Melted Electronics Video Breaker (not exactly sure how useful this is going to be for us and it looks like it takes up a fair amount of space, but VGA in and out caught my eye)
I also want to have a couple more "advanced/specialized" modules from LZX or Syntonie, but really not sure where the best bang for my buck is going to be here. From LZX- Scrolls, Stacker, Swatch, and Ribbons jumped out at me; Syntonie has Entrée, Isohelie, Seuils, and Solaire that look interesting, but PLEASE I am interested in whatever the big selling points for your favorite modules from these companies are, especially in combo with the Mainbow, etc.
Kinda want to toss in a VidPix too, but uhhhhh. I would jump on one on the secondary market if anybody is looking to unburden themselves of one.
What am I not thinking of? Wouldn't mind some more I/O ideas- VGA/HDMI/Capture modules, etc. IDK. All suggestions welcome. Thanks in advance for the pointers, I appreciate y'all.
