Music Tech DIY • Quick & dirty 6U eurorack travel case

As my "needs" have expanded, I've ended up with a couple of Synthracks 84hp frames (rails+flat cheeks) spare.

Browsing around eBay etc prompted the thought of using them for a 6U travel case (or just somewhere to keep modules I'm not using, thinking of unloading or whatever).

Found an inexpensive "flight case" of the right dimensions (though I doubt it'd survive the tender ministrations of an actual baggage handler), and everything's a nearly perfect fit. Lid's not deep enough to close when patched, unless using tendrils I suppose, but not bothered really.

I've turned over a few options in my mind for securing the rails in the case. The material seems to be fibreboard with a thin aluminium skin over. Probably about 3mm thick in total. The cheeks are drilled for fixing in a wooden case

First idea was just pop-rivet through from the outside.

(Actually, full disclosure here, my very first idea was to warm up my glue gun and bodge the fuck out of it)

Second was "ooh but what if I want to take the rails out again, maybe I should use some machine screws and dome head nuts, or some clever shit like that?".

But tbh I think, perfection being the enemy being the enemy of the good and KISS and all that, popping it is going to be quick and simple.

Also thinking of replacing the strut hinges with lift-offs .

Any other clever ideas?

(These shouldn't require the fully equipped metal- and wood-working shop that most USians here seems to have in their spare garage btw 🤪)
