Something happened when connecting my new VCA yesterday that's really puzzling me. I'm about 3 years into modular so I'm still relatively new. Apologies if there's a simple explanation to this.
Anyway, yesterday I attached the ribbon cable from my new doepfer A-130-2 VCA to the flying bus board correctly but foolishly forgot to check the connection between the ribbon cable and module (it arrived connected).
I switched the power on and everything seemed okay. Only green lights on the Behringer CP1A, no smoke and no bangs. However when I began patching, I noticed the volume coming out of the VCA was very quiet and noisy. After about 30 minutes of experimenting with bitwig (I trigger/sequence my modular gear with bitwig) and patching without the VCA, I established the issue can only be the VCA. This led me to check the back of the module for a volume/trim control, and when doing so, to my horror, I noticed the bloody ribbon cable was connected to the module the WRONG WAY ROUND! I reconnected the cable correctly and now everything works fine (the volume has returned and without any noise) but I'm left rather confused. Ordinarily, if the red stripe is connected at the wrong end the module and power supply are reduced to toast, but mine weren't. How can this be? For over half an hour the module was active and connected incorrectly without any smoke or bangs.
Also, why was the Behringer power supply indicating everything was connected perfectly? There was only ever green lights. I'm so puzzled.
Thank you in advance to anyone who can illuminate me on this one.
