Hi everyone,
I’m stuck on an Expert Sleepers ES-8 vs Ableton Live / Push 3 ADAT connectivity issue. First time using the ES-8 in an ADAT audio standalone situation. I’ve searched here and elsewhere and can’t seem to find exactly the same scenario/solution for the problem I’m experiencing. Brain broken. Hoping someone can help!
Goal: In this instance, I’m trying to use the ES-8 simply in ADAT standalone mode to get audio to and from Ableton Live / Push 3 (controller mode) over ADAT. My goal is to route one or more audio tracks from my Live set into my modular to process through a couple effects units there, then back into Live round trip. Kind of like an external send/return situation.
Problem: The ADAT audio travels just fine from Push/Live to my modular setup out of Live’s output channels 9/10 into the ES-8. Lights on the ES-8 are blinky, and I’ve confirmed the ADAT audio signal is audible and being processed within the modular environment. The problem is that I can’t seem to get that effected audio signal back through ADAT via the ES-8 inputs to return it back into Push/Live.
My understanding is that when the ES-8 is in ADAT standalone mode (no usb connected), the right column of eight jacks labeled 1 thru 8 are the audio coming from Live via outputs 9 thru 16. The left column of four jacks labeled 1 thru 4 are the audio that’s returning to Live’s inputs 9 thru 12. That return trip ain’t happening.
Conditions: Here’s what I’ve double checked so far with regard to settings:
- Ableton Live 12 / Push 3 all up to date on MacBook Pro M1.
- ES-8 is up to date (works fine otherwise when in USB mode sending both CV/audio).
- ADAT cables are good. Tried both old and brand new cables (Hosa).
- Patch cables are good.
- Both the ES-8 and Live/Push 3 are in 44.1.
- Not sure if it matters in this application, but Push 3’s clock source is set to Internal, not ADAT In.
What am I missing? Any help and insight would be greatly appreciated!
Chris
