Is there a good trick or software tool to snip out just the lead melody from MIDI files?
I’ll be visiting a friend over the holidays and he’s interested in me bringing along a small bit of modular synth to use to play Christmas songs. I don’t often use MIDI, mostly sequencing in the rack and just noodling with knobs and patch cables. I do have a CV.OCD which I could use for MIDI/CV duties.
I wanted to put together a playlist of Christmas songs, and there are plenty of Christmas MIDI files available online, but generally they’re all complex songs with melody, harmony, drums, and many tracks, and rather inconsistent use of different channel numbers. My modular setup will be small, so I’ll want to stick to mostly monophonic playback of the recognizable melodies from the songs. To get the playlist set up, and get consistent use of a single MIDI track with just a melody, it seems like it might be quite tedious to edit the various files manually.
Alternatively, is there a good repository of super-simplified monophonic melodies?
