I recently noticed that th pcb of Rene Classic has a series of 12 open vias labeled “I/O.” Like this:
After following the traces and probing around, I can confirm that these do indeed provide access to the 10 inputs and outputs available from the front panel of Rene (two of the vias appear unused). I have also tested sending signals to and from these locations, and everything works a charm except X-CV and Y-CV, neither of which respond to voltage. The problem presumably has to do with the way those inputs are connected to the corresponding potentiometers—using the front panel sockets, the potentiometers act either as offset controls or attenuators depending on whether a cable is patched in. I imagine that this behavior is achieved through the tip and sleeve connections in the mini jacks, but I don’t fully grasp what’s happening in the circuit.
My idea is to build a banana breakout via these I/O headers on the Rene pcb so that I can conveniently interface with my 4U Serge stuff. Anyone have suggestions for creative workarounds with regards to the X- and Y-CV inputs?
