Hey all! This one's a doozy...
I should start by saying I'm fairly familiar with DAWs like FL and Ableton, and have messed with digital synths and all, but I really excel with guitar. My DAWless needs are really due to circumstance. I recently started attending a boarding school with a strict computer policy: you simply can't have a phone or computer with you, other than the laptop they provide you. The laptop isn't wholly monitored, but there are enough admin-password locks to make it so you can't really do much besides use the browser. I've found that I'm able to install REAPER, but I'm not able to install drivers for my audio interface, so any chance of connecting my guitar to the laptop falls flat.
My question here is this: Is there a particular piece of hardware that I can use to mix, record, and do minor edits to guitar, vocal, bass, and drum machine on? From what I'm aware of, the Tascam 12 is possibly what I'm looking for, but the large size makes it difficult to travel with, and the older software sort of makes me wary for future application. Something like a groovebox may be better suited, but the common lack of XLR and TRS inputs deters my interest. The 1010 Bluebox is attractive, but the 3.5mm input set makes me roll my eyes. Not to mention, a lot of these devices are focused solely on electronic music, which isn't my primary focus; maybe something flipped, like a multitrack recorder that has elements of a groovebox? A DAW in a box with mixing features?? (this jargon makes me tired ~_~)
I'm open to any suggestions or considerations, I know you all are more familiar with this subject![:P]( "razz")
