Hi Wigglers,
In my current setup I use MFB-522, MFB-503 and Elektron Samples. I do slightly experimental stuff and the dry and raw analog sound from the MFB's suit my style perfect. I use the Elektron Samples for some variation. But the setup is rather complicated to manage and all the individual outputs takes up a lot of inputs on my Bluebox-1010. So I'm looking for a more simple solution and if possible with a broader pallette of sounds and more options to sculpt them.
Right now I have a Syntakt on my hands. I haven't used it more than a couple of hours yet. But it seems a little too clean and polished for my taste. And I find the sound sculpting somewhat odd and limited. But maybe I just need to spend some more time with it.
As an alternative I have my eyes on the Vermona drm1. It seems capable of doing a lot things and I guess it will work well with my Korg SQ-64. I dig the knob per function and the fact that it is purely analog. But I can't find that many examples on the how deep the rabbit hole goes. Especially with the snare, the clap and the hats. How broad can you take the snare - just to have a reference; bright and snappy like the 808 and mellow and punchy like 909? Is the sound signature of the machine rather limited despite its "tweakabillity" - in other words; it it easy to outgrow it? Anyone using it in their production?
Any thoughts and advice is appreciated, thanks.
