Yo!
So long story short is I have an idea for a small and minimalist performance mixer with a couple of unique features. Standalone desktop type thing.
My initial thought was to buy a cheap amazon mixer and rehouse it and hack in the features I want. This seems mostly doable.
Then I thought to myself that the circuits are not that terribly difficult save one feature on the main out that might not even make the cut, but I literally have like an hour a week of free time so it would be years for me to research and piece the project together with my skillset. (I have put together some kits and done light soldering repair work.. Not circuit design).
Then I thought, what if I could hire someone to design the board and either build it myself (or outsource a small run) and make like 10 of them..
So my question is from the DIY minded builders, does this type of design work fall into that wheel house? Or would that go to an EE? I don't know what I don't know.
I've seen some 'hire us to design your circuit companies, but do they know about musical circuits ? I don't know!
Here are the features for my idea, I know its impossible to ask, but ballpark what could I expect to pay for someone to design this circuit board? Is designing circuits based on features or complications?
5 mono channels to stereo output
Each channel has pan knob, dj filter knob (combo low pass<->high pass), level knob, large momentary mute button, (maybe gain control?), led for mute indication, mute button function toggle switch (this would change a momentary cut of audio to a momentary passthrough of audio, requires specific toggle and button)
Master stereo channel has level knob, dj filter, master mute button, led for mute indication
special feature (maybe!): 1 knob compressor circuit on the master out that is sidechained from channel 5 with a second knob for separate intensity control for the effect.
power switch with led and jacks for ins and outs..
Thoughts or critiques? Am I dumb for thinking this? Should I just hack it together from amazon parts?
