Play Out! Performance Modulars • Live setup for finished tracks (Eurorack/hardware)

I want to re-perform my finished tracks as part of a live modular performance, and I’m curious how other people are doing this. For what I play (house), for each track I want to keep certain prerecorded parts and perform others. Looking to be flexible about which track to play next (dj style), and be flexible in how I progress through the different passages of each track. I’m trying to solve how to deal with the prerecorded parts.

So far, I’ve thought to bounce my tracks in a few stems and chop those up in different passages, to trigger them in some way. I already own an Assimil8or and Oxi One that could do this. Oxi One can switch seamlessly between projects and send program changes to Assimil8or to change preset (via Locutus). But I’m a bit worried about doing ‘fire and forget’ on a longer passage on the Assimil8or with no way to keep it synced tightly.

Some other ideas I’ve been considering:
  • a Eurorack multitrack sampler as master clock that keeps loops on the grid itself – but it would need to be able to manage a whole live set and that seems challenging with a small interface
  • MPC/Octatrack/Rytm: cool, not sure about switching projects on the fly, or for managing a whole set – additionally a great studio tool
  • DAW with a controller, e.g. Push: powerful but I’d prefer a solution without laptop
Interested in any opinion or experience!
