Hey.
Lately I keep thinking about opamp choices, and I want to know if this is on other folks' mind, too?
I was fixing up an old Rhodes, and replaced the 4558's in the Janus preamp with modern TL072's and thought the results were really good. A lot cleaner, lower noise, etc. Then I did the slew rate mod on my Voyager and socketed the waveshaping opamp to compare between the original TL074's and the ones recommended by the mod. Now, yesterday when I was working on a Roland SRE-555 I was looking at the schematic and thought, "What if I replaced these LF353's with really expensive OPA2134's?"
I made a kinda dumb video comparing the sound of the original 353's and the new 2134's, which I posted to YouTube here:

Playing the two different opamps back to back, it sort of cemented my growing opinion that changing out old opamps for modern ones can make sort of a big difference.
Is this something you guys think about when you're restoring old gear?
Or do only like ... gullible "audiophile" people care about this?
Am I tricking my own ears?
I don't know. But thought I'd see what other people have to say now that it seems I'm on sort of a jag about this with all the stuff that comes into my studio. (Note: I am not really taking this that seriously, I'm just more or less amusing myself.)
