I’ve seen mention made in various interviews, forums, etc of artists/producers intentionally flipping the phase on various channels of a mixing desk, not to solve a phase issue but rather to see if anything sounds “good” with the phase inverted. I’ve even heard some of the by-the-book audio guys I know talk about doing this occasionally for the same reason.
Is this a thing? What’s the goal here, and are there any particular tips for effectiveness (“Always flip the left drum buss channel” is a random example i just now completely made up)? Seems like a powerful tool to create some unique space in a recording, and also a way to really fuck everything up going forward if you’re not careful
